Beginning January 2010, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board will be issuing off-leash permits. Applications will start being accepted on December 1, 2009. Permits will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

Once you have your permit you will be able to exercise your dog off the leash in a safe environment. Off-Leash Recreation Areas are located in several Minneapolis parks. These specially designated areas are fenced and signed.

Off-Leash Dog Park Locations

• Franklin Terrace Off-Leash Recreation Area
• Lake of the Isles Off-Leash Recreation Area (includes designated, fenced space for small dogs)
• Minnehaha Off-Leash Recreation Area (pay parking in adjacent lot)
• St. Anthony Parkway Off-Leash Recreation Area
• Loring Park Off-Leash Recreation Area

Tips for Use of Off-Leash Areas

• Dog has a collar and visible off-leash permit tag.
• Extend common courtesy to all other users.
• Pick up after your dog and bring a spare dog-bag to share.
• Do NOT let dogs defecate in the Mississippi River.
• Bring ample water for your dog(s).
• Do not bring food or dog toys into the areas. This may create a conflict.
• Moderate your use during peak hours.
• Do not bring glass containers into an off-leash area.

Pet licenses are required for use of Off-Leash areas. Minneapolis residents can apply for a dog license at Minneapolis Animal Care & Control.
