Minneapolis Off-Leash Recreation Areas
Beginning January 2010, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board will be issuing off-leash permits. Applications will start being accepted on December 1, 2009.
Permits will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

Once you have your permit you will be able to exercise your dog off the leash in a safe environment. Off-Leash Recreation Areas are located in several Minneapolis parks. These specially designated areas are fenced and signed.

Tips for Use of Off-Leash Areas
- Dog has a collar and visible off-leash permit tag.
- Extend common courtesy to all other users.
- Pick up after your dog and bring a spare dog-bag to share.
- Do NOT let dogs defecate in the Mississippi River.
- Bring ample water for your dog(s).
- Do not bring food or dog toys into the areas. This may create a conflict.
- Moderate your use during peak hours.
- Do not bring glass containers into an off-leash area.
Call the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board at 612-230-6400 if you have any questions about the use and location of the dog recreation areas. Call 911 in case of emergency while using the dog parks.
Pet licenses are required for use of Off-Leash areas. Minneapolis residents can apply for a dog license at Minneapolis Animal Care & Control.
